My best friend is religious and I'm not...?

Just a few weeks ago, I admitted to my best friend that I am an agnostic theist, which means that I believe the proposition that a higher power exists, but the existence of such a power is unknown. This friend of mine is a very religious person, and he has refused to talk to me since then. I admit that I had discovered this about myself when he insisted that we read bible pages over the phone before we go to bed, since he lives across the country. I tried to explain to him that this was unnecessary, but he refused to listen to me, so I had to burst his bubble the next day. I have nothing against people who are religious, but how am I supposed to explain myself to him without coming off as a know-it-all non-believer?
