Best hair dye for dark black hair?!!help ineed 2 change my look!!!?

hi..i have a very dark black hair.. i dyed my hair before red & its does't change ((still black)) .. now iwant 2 dye my hair blonde ..my friend said 2 me that imust dying my hair the lightest blonde & its will be brown.. is that real??
