Definition of the Period of a Pendulum?

Hi, I just want to make sure that I have this right. When finding the period of a pendulum by just timing 1 oscillation, the period for the oscillation would just be defined as the time it takes for the pendulum starting from the left (for example) to go to the right and then back to the left. Am I correct?
