CAN SOMEONE PROOF READ THIS PLEASE?
The first photo (lines 1-2) shows many different footprints imprinted in the gritty beach sand, each with a path of its own. Each impression represents a different life, which in turn represent different thoughts and perspectives. The second photo (lines 3-4) shows the poet gazing enquiringly at his reflection in the mirror, seeing something other than what he is used to. By looking in the mirror, Kunitz realizes his life is nearer to the end than the beginning. The third photo (lines 5-6) shows a breaking chain, which represents the heavy burden on the shoulders of the author as he ‘struggles not to stray’ from his self-set path of life. The fourth photo (lines 7-8) is of an eye reflecting the path the author has just walked down, which represents him thinking back into moments that had come to p to find meaning to continue on. The next image (lines 9-10) is symbolic of the poet’s efforts to achieve a goal as he “[gathers] strength to proceed on [his] journey.” However, Kunitz reveals that he must be willing to give away all he holds dear to attain it. This image raises the question, “who is to say that what one strives for will be worth it?” Moreover, the sixth photo (lines 13-14) shows an empty, yet recently inhabited campsite. This shows the movement of one further through life, as the photo represents people leaving to proceed further in their journey and set up camp elsewhere. The camp itself signifies the coasting period in life. The next image (lines 15-16) is of a stone angel. The ‘scavenger angel’ is a paradox because the word ‘angel’ implies a holy being, but the ‘scavenger’ implies it stays behind to feast on the people who were left behind at the abandoned campsites. In the eighth photograph (lines 17-19), the tribesmen represent all the loves the author has had and their discontent stands for their ideas being tered. This is symbolic of his love being separated amidst opposing ideas.
